I prefer to keep my options simple in this regard. The very best poker games are often adorned by exciting audio/visual effects and dazzling jackpot winnings. Let’s explore your options in the poker gaming sphere.

First up is a game that I have come to appreciate for its multiple betting rounds, multiple draws and exciting game play. It’s called Deuce-to-Seven Triple Draw poker. This game is highly rated amongst poker professionals the world over. The gaming action here is piping hot and with 5 cards in this lowball game Aces are always high. Remember you’re aiming for a hand that comprises 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. That’s the best you can attain. Those high hands that are the crème de la crème of standard poker will sink you like torpedos in this game.

Another much-loved game in this vein is called Crazy Pineapple poker. It’s loaded with world-class betting action and it simply has to be played to be enjoyed. This is a community-card game that thrives on gaming action not dissimilar to Texas Hold’em. You commence your hand with 3 cards being dealt to you. Thus your combinations start early – as does the competition. But the best part is that you get 3 additional cards on the flop and you must discard one of your three hole cards in order to make 5-card hand.

A third game that is revered by poker players is called Badugi. Funnily enough, it’s also a lowball game where the card suit plays a prominent role. The object of the game is to make the best 4-card low hand possible. Be advised however that pairs and similar suits count against you. If you know how to play a made hand you’re in great company for this card game. Working out how to play this game is a cinch, because you get 4 cards. Notice that the best hand starts with an A, 2, 3, 4 of different suits. A Badugi is a set of 4 cards of different suits from A thru 4.

Two final games that make players really happy are Four-up, Three-down Seven-Card Stud. Note that in this game there are 5 betting rounds. It’s a lot more rumble in the jungle than typical games of Texas Hold’em and the usual 5-Card Draw games. The rules of play are a little more complex than say Pineapple Poker, but it’s a good game nonetheless and lots of fun. My last game for this blog post is called 7-card no peek. As you might suspect, it’s loaded with lots of secrets. All cards are dealt face down here. Only 1 card is exposed for the 1st player to bet on. Everything begins from the dealer’s left. It’s a series of bets and flips until the best 5-card hand is formed.

If horseracing is the sport of kings then poker must surely be the game of emperors. Of all the poker variants that I’m aware of, there are three particular favourites that make it to the top of my list, time and again. These games range from five-card draw games to seven-card stud and then the big daddy of them all – Texas Hold’em games. Of course the latter needs little introduction, but for all of you poker greenhorns fresh out of poker school, a little introduction to these variants will be of tremendous value.

In draw poker games players are dealt a complete poker hand and they work hard at improving the hand value by holding certain cards and releasing others. When it comes to stud poker each player will receive a variety of face-up cards as well as face-down cards in several rounds of betting. If you’re playing community card poker then you’ll notice that each and every player will sport a hand showing some cards face up and some cards face down. As I’ve already mentioned earlier, both Texas Hold’em and Omaha Hold’em are community card poker games.

What about the rules of poker variants?

Like the gaming variants the rules also differ. There are many exciting and novel rules for poker games. I’m going to go through a couple of them in this post and more in future posts. If we’re going to talk about a high-low split then both the highest and lowest poker hands would typically share the spoils of the pot. So you could really be the worst or best player and still benefit. In a game like lowball the lowest hand would take it all. Special rules to look out for are whether or not the Aces are low or high. But there are other rules too, like how much weight is lent to straights and flushes. I particularly enjoy kill games where a fixed limit game is played and a player wins two pots consecutively. If the potential winnings are doubled, then its known as a kill game. If we want to make some cards wild then this is easily done in poker. Deuces wild, Jacks wild, 7’s wild are all very common variations of this particular poker theme.
